Bobby Orr on what really matters

Joe Fitzgerald of the Boston Herald on Bobby Orr's great perspective on life. The losses matter very little in the grand scheme.

Looking for a clip from today's World Cup game between Italy vs Paraguay game, I found this ditty!

The Korean Conspiracy of 2002 to operatic music:

Melodramatic isn't enough to describe this video.

God bless Fred Cusick

That voice -- so distinct -- was part of my early life listening and watching the Bruins on Channel 38. The Bruins were all the rage back in the early 1970s. Fred Cusick, one of the best play-by play announcers in hockey, has died. He was 90 and left the benchmark for which all Bruins announcers will be measured.

The exhilarating voice was the narrative to the art that was Bobby Orr, the greatest hockey player ever.

Fred Cusick will be missed.

Let us all praise a great human being: Tony Dungy

Tony Dungy is calling it quits. He will remain one of the most decent men in and out of football:
"While the city of Tampa reveres Dungy for turning a moribund franchise into a perennial playoff team, Indy's bond with Dungy was just as strong.

The city applauded Dungy's achievement when he finally won the Super Bowl and rallied around Dungy's family when he endured his greatest tragedy - his son's suicide in 2005.

'His biggest legacy will be all the people around the country who he's inspired to be better and to deal with some of life's tragedies in a manner that gives people a lot of strength,' Edwards said. 'What he went through with his son and how he handled it, was something that says a lot about Tony, his faith and what he stands for.'

What's next for Dungy is unclear. He has been involved for years in prison ministries, with Family First and as part of All-Pro Dads.

'Where my heart is, is really with our young men right now,' Dungy said. 'We have so many guys that didn't grow up like me, didn't have their dad there and that's something I'm very, very interested in.'"

It's about time! Rice enters Baseball's HOF

Better late than never. Jim Rice enters the Hall of Fame. He was one of the greatest hitters to put on a Red Sox uniform.

The world has gone mad!

BostonHerald.com: Yanks pluck Teixeira. Is any player worth $180 million for 8 years?

Is the top ticket at the new Yankee Stadium worth $2,500?

God Bless Bobby Orr, the greatest

When Bobby Orr touched the puck, the world became electrified and great things would happen.

He was the greatest hockey player. Period.

Tampa Bay Rays make it to the Big Show

The Tampa Bay Rays, who last year had the worst record, are 2008 American League Champions.

I didn't think they could come back from that devastating loss in Boston last Thursday. But they did and with a lot of verve. Plus, David Price is one clutch pitcher.

When it comes to heart, Troy Brown was one of the best Patriots to wear the uniform

Number 80 retires. Troy Brown was a great athlete not because of his records and talent but because of his restless enobling heart. In announcing his retirement, Brown worn that heart on his Patriot sleeve. A necessary debate should take place on whether the franchise molded the wide receiver or he molded the team that would eventually capture three world championships.
Drafted in the eighth round out of Marshall in 1993, Brown was often the embodiment of the unselfish, team player during his career. While emerging as a go-to receiver by catching 281 passes from 2000-2002, he made the Pro Bowl in 2001. He returned punts and kickoffs. He also bailed the Patriots out on defense by playing cornerback while the team went on to win three Super Bowl titles in a four-year period. He had three interceptions in 2004.
His talent will be missed but his example should be seared into the memory of any authetic football fan.

Drew Bledsoe, Class Act, retires

Drew Bledsoe was a great quarterback and helped resurrect the Pats from the team's doormat status in the early 1990s. He set records, earned four Pro Bowl visits and won a superbowl in a supporting role. Not bad for the 14 year veteran. He wasn't always treated well in New England after Tom Brady took over but he never seemed to complain extensively.

Like most football stars Bledsoe credited his father for his upbrining. The Drew Bledsoe Foundation is a proud sponsor of Parenting with Dignity run by Mac Bledsoe. More on the program here.

Thank you Drew for allowing us to know you. Hold your head up high. You are a great role model. All the best.

He will be missed

Bill Parcells will be missed on the sidelines. He is one of the great motivating coaches in the history of the game. And for the press, he certainly put on a good show but he chose not to address the media to announce his decision to retire from football.

He opted instead for an email. A little out of character but 19 hard seasons wear heavily on a man. He's entitled to bow out in any manner he chooses as far as I'm concerned.

In his last try, the Cowboys blew a chance to beat the Seahawks when Pro Bowl quarterback Tony Romo botched a hold on a short field goal with a little more than a minute left.

Parcells goes out having losing lost four of his final five games, including the last three. His announcement came 15 days after the loss to Seattle.

"I am retiring from coaching football,' Parcells said in a statement. "I want to thank Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones for their tremendous support over the last four years. Also, the players, my coaching staff and others in the support group who have done so much to help. Dallas is a great city and the Cowboys are an integral part of it. I am hopeful that they are able to go forward from here."

The announcement came in a morning e-mail.

Unbelievable!

All week it was LaDainian Tomlinson, LT, LT! How are we going to stop LT?

In the end the road to the Super Bowl is littered with MVPs unable to stop the tenancious Patriots.

What a game!

Troy Brown isn't going to the Pro Bowl. So what! Patriots 24, Chargers 21. Make no mistake, this one's for the history books folks.
