REQUIRED READING: A Study in Defeat by Jacob Laksin, (City Journal 26 June 2009): "In Amsterdam, a series of violent attacks on gays—often in broad daylight— destroyed the city’s reputation as one of the most tolerant in Europe." Who's inciting the violence? Radical Islamists. Where is the European left on this issue? The American one? The tenor of the times suggests it's so much easier to blame Bush, I guess. That won't get you killed.
The preceding paragraph comes from Laskin's review of the new Bruce Bawer book, Surrender. To the multiculturalists, Bawer is a racist. To the rationalist, he is a truth-teller. That the focus falls upon Bawer and not the Islamofacists speaks volumes to the level of discourse in contemporary politics.

It what appears to be a momentous momentary lapse of justice, Thomas gives the longest benefit of the doubt to public school administrators. D.R. calls him out.
Notes From D. R.: "Thomas remains an underrated Justice and a role model for conservatives of color, but his wisdom went missing in this case. Savana Redding was essentially raped without force, treated like a third-class citizen by overzealous, clueless school administrators. I never thought I’d say this about a conservative judge, but Thomas should have shown some empathy."Among his worst dissents of which they are not many.

Is there no shame? Last week, vandals decided to deface a community memorial to World War II veterans in Wakefield with a pithy peace slogan. "War is not the answer." In a free society, there's a time and a place for every opinion. However, the little anarchists, apparently full of themselves, have very little taste or knowledge of history. Town officials soon tried to remove the paint-stained message but the vestige of this major misdemeanor remains.
(Photographs taken 6/27/09 with Blackberry camera).
More on the defacing of the memorial from Marc Sardella.

The Taliban is hurting because AQ is on the run
Al Qaeda also lost a lot of popular support because of their indiscriminate killings in Iraq, and now Afghanistan. It's no wonder they are broke.Neither the Taliban nor AQ have any tactical intelligence.

Over at Notes from D.R., Devone sizes up two Republican dudes straying from the GOP reservation on social issues. Yep Dick Cheney! Good for Cheney on this -- and other matters -- he's speaking truth to the shrinking shrill base of the GOP.
